Lewis Hamilton seems to have difficulties more than ever in Formula 1, but he has an unshakable ally in the teammate of Ferrari Charles Leclerc.

Leclerc has always played team game; This was illustrated by his recent comments at the Belgian Grand Prix, when asked if he was surprised to have the upper hand on Hamilton in terms of performance.

The Mongasque then insisted that “really is in the background for the moment”, adding “my main target for the moment is to bring Ferrari to the top” and “Lewis is not my target”.

It was 11 days ago, and since then Hamilton had two other difficult weekends. The seven times world champion qualified 18th, 16th and 12th (including the Spa-Francorchamps Sprint) when Leclerc was respectively in the fourth, the third and the first.

Hamilton made commanding progress on a wet track in the main race of the Belgian GP, but it was perhaps the only positive of these two laps, because he ended up outside the points of Hungary for the first time in his career.

What was even more revealing was Hamilton’s behavior in the media.

Six months ago, the Briton was full of enthusiasm when he started a new chapter as a Ferrari F1 driver; He has gradually become glum – insofar as, in the post -skillful media pen to Hungarring, he mainly delivered almost monosyllabic answers. A few seconds earlier, addressing Sky Sports F1, he qualified as “absolutely useless” and suggested that Ferrari had to replace him.

However, asked questions about his teammate after Sunday’s race, Leclerc insisted that everything he wanted was the success of the team – including that of Hamilton – and made him bounce back.

“At the end, we are a team, and as much as I want to finish in front of Lewis, I want us to succeed and that Ferrari succeeds,” said Leclerc.

“Obviously, this weekend was difficult for Lewis, but I have no doubt that it is only one-off, and I am sure that the second part of the season will be much more positive.”

Perhaps not as positive as this Hungarian GP could have been, after the head of the longtime and long-standing breed, Leclerc, abandoned the positions of the podium due to an unpertified chassis problem which made his car “inadable”.

“I do not think that we are entering the second half of the season thinking that we can win anywhere, and that is what makes frustration even greater, because we knew that it was an opportunity probably during the season and we had to take it, but unfortunately with this problem, we could not do much,” deplored Leclerc.
