The County Triangle team of Lewis de Carthage, Lowville and Denmark on Sunday used the depth of the exceptional team to win the title for the third time in the 89th anniversary of the event of the event and the 11th time that it was staged to Governor Country Club.
Brandon Mothersll (75-69-144), Scott Taylor 73-72-145 and Kyle Nichols 71-76-147 paved the way and team members Justin Taylor (156), Rob Hayes (171) and Anthony Burgess (160) completed the efforts.
Carlowden also produced the junior tournament champion in Eli McCue and the senior champion in Todd Slate, the two golfers finishing at 145.
Carlowden opened an advance of the first day of 438-449 on the Run Country Canton Club Partridge and finished with a margin of 881-892 on Malone, who shared the honors of the second day with Governor with 440. Potsdam ranked third with a score of 893 and governor took the fourth row at 897.
Taylor said that the methodically won title came from an organized effort starting with a spectacular upgrade in the course.
“We had an influx of new members, but it all started with our exceptional staff. Our golf director Matt Russell and Ken Hodge and Dana Hodge really did an exceptional job,” said Taylor. “He thinks we have the best greens and the best course in the region.”
Taylor also declared that the effort of the Governor Country Club to welcome the tournament on his field of nine holes was unparalleled.
“Governor has done an excellent job and deserves a lot of credit,” he said.
The director of the Bart Kidwell tournament described the three -day exceptional golf event with countless hours of preparation by volunteers.
“The course is owned by the members and that many members volunteered during the three days by doing everything, from the location on the course in the kitchen,” said Kidwell.
The club member, Ken Augliano, was quick to interjection to the role of Kidwell’s management.
“Bart Kidwell is a volunteer and directed the tournament. He did not play and he took a lot of hours to prepare things,” said Augliano.
“And I want to thank all the players who came made an excellent display on how to play golf.”
No one played better than Matt Barton of the C-Way Golf Club in Clayton who won the individual title with a total of two days of 139 and prevailed on the final hole with a margin at a stroke of Jack Finnerty by Parridge Run.
The duel came down to the last shot on the 18th hole of the by five where Barton made a putt of Birdie and Finnerty could not get up and down after hitting the ball on the green on his second blow.
Barton remained in his comfort zone throughout his 36 holes on his first time by playing the course.
“I had never even seen the course before this weekend. For me, it was corners. I had a lot of 90 to 100 to 110 yards and that the neighborhood game was solid. Not much that you could not have bad if you have a lot of 10-foot sipts,” said the old star of the Thousand Islands.
Ramble of Governor ranked third at 141.
Tom Smith de Potsdam won the Super Senior title at 151 a blow to Craig Woods by Governor and Chris Dénesha de C-Way won the director’s title.
Ryan Patenaude de Malone and Cooper Lovely of Potsdam equaled second place in the Junior Division in 148. Deane Manning by Thompson Park by Watertown and Bruce Weiner of Saint-Laurent equaled second place in the super senior division at 157.
