Noah Lyles, Sha’Carri Richardson among stars to look at the American athletics championships

The main athletics athletics across the country will descend on Eugene, Oregon this week for the 2025 American athletics championships.

Noah Lyles, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Sha’Carri Richardson and Grant Holloway represent some of the star athletes who will participate in Hayward Field.

The championships will determine who will make the American team for the September athletics championships in September in Tokyo, Japan.

USA Today Sports will be on the ground in Eugene, Oregon, to report and give an overview of all the action. To prepare you, we have the marquee athletes to watch:

Noah Lyles

Events: 100, 200

Lyles does not have to compete to get a place in the American national team because he is the defending world champion at 100 and 200 meters. He entered the two events, but he said that he planned to focus on 200 in Eugene.

Lyles ran a better staff of 9.79 to win the 100 at Olympique de Paris. His best of 19.31 in 200s in 200 is an American record.

Lyles’ Top Times This year are 10.00 in the 100 and 19.88 in the 200, well of its best career brands. However, Lyles tends to shine when the lights are shiny. He is the fastest man in the country when he is in great shape.

Sha’Carri Richardson

Events: 100, 200

The defending world champion of the 100 obtained a Bye at the 2025 world championships, but she has always entered 100 and 200 meters.

Richardson finished ninth from the 100 at the Prefontaine Classic, with a record for season 11.19. His personal record is 10.65. She is the most talented sprinter in the field of 100, but her training companion, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, has a better season. Jefferson-Wooden has the top 100 (10.73) in the world this year.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone

Event: 400

The world record for 400 -meter obstacles and the Olympic gold medalist dropped obstacles and should execute the Open 400.

McLaughlin-Levrone is the big favorite of the event. The quadruple Olympic gold medalist won 49.43 in 400 this year. McLaughlin-Levrone is one of the best female athletes in the country in all sports. She could flirt with the American record (48.70) in Eugene.

Grant Holloway

Event: 110 obstacles

Holloway has a Bye in the world championships because he won gold in the hedges of 110 meters at the 2023 world championships. He entered the 110 hedges, but his goodbye arrived at a necessary time because he was confronted with an injury.

Holloway is a triple world champion in the 110 hedges and won gold in the event at the Paris Olympic Games. His best life of 12.81 is the second fastest time of all time.

Quincy Wilson

Events: 400

The 400 -meter prodigy has become one of the darling of athletics when he obtained a place in the American Olympic team of 2024.

Wilson ran a 44.10 in July to break his own world record for under 18s. The 17 -year -old sprinter is tied for the fourth fastest entry of the 400. He is a favorite of the podium and will certainly have the crowd on his side in Eugene.

Quincy Hall, the defending Olympic champion of the 400, will not show up for the American championships due to an injury.

Another mu-nikolayev

Events: 800

The 800 -meter runner looked unbeatable at the Tokyo Olympic Games and continued her domination at the 2022 World Championships, but she has not been able to regain her shape since.

Mu-Nikolayev endured a heartbreaking fall during the 2024 American Olympic tests and failed to do the team. She finished 10th – Well behind the other runners – to the classic preontaine this year.

Mu-Nikolayev is the holder of the American record in the 800 (1: 54.97), but will she be able to return to her dominant ways? This is one of the biggest questions at the American athletics championships.

When are American athletics championships

The American athletic championships begin on Thursday, July 31. The last day of the competition is Sunday, August 3.
