After the first round in Fendrich, there are 31 players under s. Wade Worthington is the night leader at 7 under 63 after a final of nine holes. But a strong contingent, including several former winners, is just behind him.
Worthington has produced the best opening round thanks to a highlighting finish. The graduate of the central High School had four birdies and an eagle to shoot a 6 to 29 on the front. Worthington helped the Par -Five, seventh – immediately after his group was put on the stopwatch – and almost done again on the four, ninth after driving the green spindle.
“I have been playing this golf tournament for about 10 years,” said Worthington. “He always had my number. This year, I focused on decision -making and strikes him in the right place. I just make better decisions and I put you in the best position possible to make the peer and the Birdie.”
Caleb Wassmer set the pace early with a 64 under 64 of the morning wave. The North Posey graduate had seven birdies to compensate for a lonely bogey. He was equal in the afternoon by Mark Wehner, who also recorded seven birdies. The two were impressive given the firmness of the course and the constant wind throughout the day.
“Historically, I play better if it’s windy,” said Wehner. “It helps me concentrate. You really have to be precise every time. I was not going to swing until I feel comfortable with what I was doing. The first weekend, you just want to cut. Lots of good golfers (on the ground) and a lot of golf.”
