Three realistic right rear transfer targets for PSG

Paris Saint-Germain has used successful transfer windows in recent years, making millions of promising young people as well as veterans of the big name. This time, however, the bets had an incredibly calm transfer window. They sold only one player – Milan Škriniar – in Fenerbahce, and lent three young players to Naoufel El Hannach, Gabriel Moscardo and Yoram Zague. In addition, they have signed only one player – Renato Marin, Roma goalkeeper, 19, on a free transfer.

After a sensational season that has seen them win their very first title in the UEFA Champions League and another triple domestic, as well as the FIFA club World Cup final, it is obvious that PSG does not have a lot of transfer priorities. However, a position that could be a high priority is the backup directly.

Last season, PSG played with only one back: Achraf Hakimi. Without doubt the best in the back of world football, Hakimi has accumulated 11 goals and 16 assists in 55 appearances during the previous season, offering a constant source of verve attack while remaining solid. Hakimi has only missed five injury matches since his participation in 2021, but he nevertheless finds himself in hot water with regard to the legal system.

Even if Hakimi avoids injuries and his lawyer gets the case against him rejected, the 26-year-old will miss several games in the 2025-26 campaign while he will join Morocco for the African Cup of Nations. This is why PSG must sign a right back this summer … but who?

It is difficult to convince a talented young person back to join a club when he probably only starts to start 10 games. This is why PSG has decided to make central fields of Shoehorn like João Neves and Warren Zaïre-Emery in the position of the right back rather than buying a real right defender. If they finally manage to sign the central Ukrainian back Ilya Zabarnyi de Bournemouth, Luis Enrique could very well be inclined to play Marquinhos in a right back against nature with Zabarnyi Partnership Willian Pacho.

However, if they decided to sign a right back, then Vanderson might be the best. Unlike the other Brazilian rear, Vanderson is not someone who lives and dies by attacking: he is a competent and balanced defender who rarely overlays, remaining well positioned while helping his team to engage with strong pressure. Capable of leaving his man to death and breaking to the line immediately, the passage of Vanderson is not quite at the same level as Hakimi, but he compensates for his aggressive tackle and his superbly timed interventions. He has already proven himself in Ligue 1 since he joined Monaco in 2022, and there is all the reasons to believe that he can make the premail in the Parisian capital.
