USA athletics championships 2025: how to look, plan, preview

The national athletics and national athletics and para 2025 championships are broadcast on NBC Sports, Peacock and USATF.TV on July 31. 3 and 3

The national champions and the members of the world championship team will be decided in Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

The headliners include 2024 Olympic gold medalists Noah Lyles (100m), Gabby Thomas (200m), Cole Hocker (1500m), Masai Russell (100m hedges) Davis-Woodhall (long jump) and Valarie Allman (Discus). The first three of most events make the September world championship team in Tokyo.

The defending world champions of 2023 have Byes in the world team – including Lyles (100m and 200m), Holloway (110m hedges), Ryan Crouser (weight throwing, missing nationals due to an elbow injury) and Sha’Carri Richardson (100m). In these events, the United States can send four athletes in the worlds.

The best athletes of para in the country will also participate in this week. USA Track and Field combines the national para championships for the first time with its annual outdoor championships. The Para Athletics Worlds are from September 26-October. 5 in New Delhi, India.

Stars to watch: Noah Lyles, Sha’Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone

Lyles does not need to compete in the national championships to make the world team, but he said that he planned to manage the 200m in Eugene anyway. Lyles will teach for a fifth 200m title for American men. He will have to beat the Kenny Bednarek Silver Olympic medalist twice.

Richardson, with her 100m bye in the worlds, said she was planning to run the 200m at the national championships. Thomas is the defending national champion, looking for her fourth title US 200M.

McLaughlin-Levrone, who broke the world record in the 400m hurdles six times, has chosen not to run this event at the national championships. Instead, she entered the 400m set, an event where she is the fastest second American in history. She was a third time for the best time in 2025 behind Aaliyah Butler and Bella Whittaker.

The 800m male could be the most convincing event. The field includes the three fastest Americans in history: Bryce Hoppel (fourth at the 2024 Olympic Games), Josh Hoey (fourth at the 2024 Olympic trials, missing the team by a place) and the 2019 world champion Donavan Brazier, back this season after having missed almost three years due to an injury.
