The upheavals continue to come to Wimbledon. After a heavy first round, American Frances Tiafoe added his name to the list of disappointing artists after a defeat against Cameron Norrie on Tuesday.
Tiafoe lost the match in four sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-5.
Tiafoe took a decent start, taking the first set 6-4. But he couldn’t hold this momentum. Tiafoe dropped the following two sets against Norrie 6-4, 6-3, to delay in the match.

With Tiafoe on the strings, the American decided to make a long break in the bathroom before the fourth set. His absence has persisted longer than expected, which accused Tiafoe of having tried to stop the momentum of Norrie. Tiafoe had left long enough for some sites to listed the match as after only three sets, which led some to wonder if Tiafoe retired due to an injury.
This was not the case. Tiafoe returned to the Court for the fourth set and first seemed to invigorate by taking up the game. But Norrie responded again, taking an advance of 4-3 in the set. Tiafoe again showed signs of life, taking the next two games to do it 5-4, but Norrie fought to win the set.
Norrie did not miss her opportunity to send the tiafoe packaging. The Briton has won the next two games, taking the fourth set 7-5 and ending the match.
Tiafoe is far from the biggest name to be eliminated early in Wimbledon this year. The first round of the event saw several seeds high fall, including Coco Gauff, Alexander Zverev and Jessica Pegula. The Americans, in particular, had trouble in 2025. After the premature outings of Gauff, Pegula and Tiafoe, Madison Keys, sixth seeded, remains the best classified on the side of women. Taylor Fritz, fifth seeded, represents the best classified American on the side of men.

This is a disappointing loss for Tiafoe, which has at least reached the third round in Wimbledon in each of the last four years. While loss probably hurts, Norrie is far from child’s play. It was n ° 61 in Wimbledon, but ranked as high as No. 18 in 2024 before chasing the classification. Norrie fought against injury and illness, which could explain her recent difficulties.
If Norrie is back to train, he could prove to be a difficult opponent the rest of the path. Norrie ranked as high as No. 8 in 2022, and showed the ability to play tennis at an elite level in the past. Tuesday’s victory over Tiafoe offered a little hope that Norrie can run things after her recent difficulties.
